TALCO signs five agreements with Uzbek companies totaling 460 million USD

The Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) and its affiliates have signed five agreements with Uzbek companies totaling 460 million U.S. dollars.

The documents were signed in Dushanbe on March 9 on the sidelines of the Tajik-Uzbek business forum, according to a source in the Tajik government.

Thus, TALCO and Joint-Stock Company (JSC) Uzbekneftegaz signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on financing the launch of 200 electrolyzers into operation at the Tajik aluminum smelter.  A total amount of the agreement, which is expected to be implemented during the period from 2018 to 2020, is 320 million USD.

Besides, TALCO concluded a frame agreement on cooperation with Uzbekistan’s KRANTAS GROUP.  The agreement provides for the establishment of a joint Tajik-Uzbek venture on assembling cars and special construction equipment.  The estimated budget of this project is 3.5 million USD.  The joint venture is expected to be built until 2020.

TALCO also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on supplying aluminum rod to Uzbekistan with Tekhno Kabel Grup (Techno Cable Group).  Under this agreement, TALCO will supply 75 million USD worth of aluminum rod to Uzbekistan during 2018-2020. 

TALCO Management Ltd, which an affiliate of TALCO, ad Uzbekistan’s Blue Bell Global Venture signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on supplying coagulant, coal and fluorite to Uzbekistan.  Under this agreement, 52.5 million USD worth of coagulant, coal and fluorite will be supplied to Uzbekistan during 2018-2020.  

Another TALCO’s affiliate, Nokili TALCO, and Uzbekistan’s Tekhno Kabel Grup signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on supplying copper as well as aluminum wire and cable to Uzbekistan.  The estimated budget of this project designed for three years is 9 million USD.  

The Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) is one of the ten largest aluminum smelters in the world.  It consumes more than 30 percent of the country’s electrical power.  TALCO is wholly owned by the Tajik government.  Tajikistan does not mine alumina but imports the raw material through tolling arrangements.

Construction of the Tajik aluminum plant (TadAZ) began in 1972, and the first pouring of aluminum took place on March 31, 1975.  THz Tajik aluminum smelter has a rated capacity of 517,000 tons of primary aluminum per year.  On April 3, 2007, TadAZ was officially renamed to TALCO – Tajik Aluminum Company.
