KHUJAND, January 4 2012, Asia-Plus — A 20-year-old Zuhro Hamroqulova from the Asht district, Sughd province has got a long jail term for brutal killing of a female pensioner in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province.
The Sughd regional court sentenced Zuhro Hamroqulova to eighteen years in prison on January 3. The sentence followed her conviction on charges of homicide (murder) committed with special cruelty, robbery involving serious injuries, and deliberate destruction of property. Hamroqulova will serve her term in a minimum-security penal colony.
Mr. Justice Jurabek Sherov, who presided over the trial, say Hamroqulova was renting a room from pensioner Vera Marinina. “She killed Vera Marinina on July 24, 2012 following a quarrel between them,” said the judge. “Hamroqulova locked Marinina in a burning balcony.”
