More than 6,000 bushes of wildly growing hemp destroyed in Sughd province

KHUJAND, June 3, 2013, Asia-Plus — More than 6,000 bushes of wildly growing Indian hemp have reportedly been destroyed in the area near the northern city of Chkalovsk.

“6,450 bushes of Indian hemp were revealed and destroyed in the area near the city of Chkalovsk on June 2 in the course of the ongoing antidrug-operation,” an official source at the Interior Ministyr’s office for Sughd province told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, a total weight of the destroyed hemp was 18.4 kilograms.

The anti-drug operation, dubbed Kuknor-2013 (Poppy 2013), was launched on My 20 and will run though November this year.

This annual operation, involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, ministries of agriculture and health, as well as the committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, is dedicated to detect and destroy drug crops across the country.
