Tajikistan, China to cooperate in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism

DUSHANBE, April 21, 2014, Asia-Plus – On Friday April 18, Tajik Interior Ministry Ramazon Rahimzoda met here with China’s Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun.

According to the Tajik Interior Ministry’s website, the sides exchanged views on issues related to cooperation between the two nations in jointly combating terrorism, extremism, separatism, drug trafficking and transnational crime.

During the meeting, Tajik minister, in particular, noted that the Ministry of Public Security of the People”s Republic of China (MPS) had a good experience in those fields and expressed confidence that China would be reliable partner of Tajikistan in protecting human rights and preventing crime.

The two reportedly also discussed bilateral cooperation in addressing modern challenges and threats, exchanging information and combating cybercrime.

The sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, the Tajik Interior Ministry’s website said.

We will recall that China’s Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun was on an official visit in Tajikistan from April 18 to April 20.

On April 17, he participated in a meeting of members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Tajik capital to discuss regional security in the wake of the withdrawal of most foreign combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

Speaking at the meeting, China”s Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun, in particular, noted that “external forces” were trying to overthrow governments in some countries by “using socioeconomic contradictions” and by “provoking new waves of colored revolutions.”
