DUSHANBE, October 10, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Prosecutor-General’s Office says all members of the outlawed Group 24 movement will be amnestied if they secede from the organization.
A statement released by the press center of the Tajik chief prosecutor’s office, in particular, says that when the decision of the Supreme Court on banning Group 24 as extremist comes into force, membership in this organization will be prosecuted at law.
We will recall that the Supreme Court of Tajikistan yesterday banned the Group 24 opposition movement as extremist on the basis of a suit filed by the Prosecutor-General’s Office.
Supreme Court judge, Ms. Salomat Hakimova, ruled that Group 24, which is led by fugitive Tajik businessman Umarali Quvvatov, is ‘extremist’ and therefore is banned in Tajikistan. Its website and printed materials were also banned.
