DUSHANBE, April 17, Asia-Plus – Capital mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev has noted that the present level of passenger transport and water supply services does not meet requirements.
These issues were major topics of an April 16 meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office presided over by Ubaidulloyev.
Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that during the meeting it was noted that although all necessary conditions had been created for development of passenger transport services, heads of the passenger transport enterprises had failed to ensure the regular work of their structures.
The mayor demanded at the meeting that the city passenger transport structures should review their activities and suggested that controlling bodies, including the prosecutor’s office, should investigate into the reasons behind the situation and provide control of the passenger transport work.
Dwelling on the water supply issues, the mayor noted that at present 30 percent of the city’s territory uses water from the Varzob River. In connection with recent heavy rainfalls, the center for sanitary and epidemiological supervision is to take measures to chlorinate the city”s water supply and establish a round-the-clock control over the water supply and report to the mayor.
The spokesman said that Jamshed Saidov had been appointed to head the unit for implementation of the water supply project funded by the World Bank.
The meeting also discussed issues related to events to mark a Capital City Day and the 10th anniversary of the Day of National Accord.
