Update: Domestic gas explosion injury toll rises to 5

DUSHANBE, November 8, Asia-Plus — Two persons were killed and at least five others were injured in a domestic gas explosion in the Zarafshon area of Dushanbe today morning.

Asia-Plus learned this from the Ministry of Interior (MoI).  The source at a MoI said that the domestic gas explosion occurred at around 6:00 a.m. in a nine-story residential building.  Two persons, including one Iranian national, were killed and five others were injured.  “Two Iranian nationals were renting an apartment on the second floor.”  The injured with burns of different degree were taken to the Dushanbe burn-treatment facility.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the explosion occurred in one of apartments of the second floor,” said the source, “The first two floors were seriously damaged by the explosion.”

All residents of this building were evacuated, and an operational team of the MoI is working on the scene of the accident.

The emergency authorities attribute the explosion to the domestic gas leakage.
