Today morning explosion treated as act of terrorism

DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus  — The explosion that occurred in Dushanbe today morning is being treated as an act of terrorism and the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office has opened a case over it, the source at the capital prosecutor’s office told Asia-Plus today afternoon.

According to him, the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) is investigating the incident.

We will recall that the explosion occurred in the yard of one of multistory residential buildings in the center of Dushanbe, not far from the mayor’s office, at around 7:00 a.m.  Security personnel cordoned off the site.

Reports on this explosion that caused no damage were quite discrepant.  Thus, the Dushanbe police directorate said that it had been just a domestic gas blast, while officers from OMON (Special Purpose Police Squad) and the security service said that splinters of hand grenade had been found at the explosion site.

In the meantime, eyewitnesses said that they had heard two explosions.
