DUSHANBE, March 14, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Sughd customs service recently stopped contraband import of food precuts and fuel into province, Asia-Plus has learned at the Tajik Customs Service in Dushanbe.
The Customs Service source said that gasoline-tank truck loaded with some 10 tons of diesel fuel had been stopped in Konibodom’s village of Ravot bordering on Uzbekistan. “The driver did not have appropriate accompanying forms,” said the source, “The fuel was confiscated and its owner was fined 5,300 somonis.”
In the meantime, three trucks loaded with totaling 18 tons of raisins and eight tons of peas were stopped in Sughd’s Istaravshan district. The preliminary investigation has established that the raisins and peas were also imported into the province from Uzbekistan illegally and their owners were fined a total of 20,900 somonis, the source said.
