Kokul BCP on Tajik-Afghan border closed for security reasons

The Tajik authorities have temporarily closed one of border crossing points (BCPs) along the Tajik-Afghan border for security reasons.

Muhammadjon Ulughkhojayev, a spokesman for the Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), says the Kokul BCP was closed after Taliban militants on August 13 overran the Ai Khanum district bordering Tajikistan’s Farkhor district (Khatlon province).

“Despite the intensification of Taliban activities in Afghan provinces bordering Tajikistan, the situation along the Tajik-Afghan border remains stable,” Ulughkhojayev said.

“The situation along the Tajik-Afghan border is under control and we aware of what is going on that side of the border” he noted.

He further noted that no attempts of violation of the border have been reported so far.

There are six border crossing points operating along Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan and five of them operate as usual.
