Uzbek government resigns to make way for new cabinet

Uzbek media reports say Uzbekistan’s government resigned yesterday.  Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov submitted a petition on the resignation of the government to the Senate (Uzbekistan’s upper chamber of parliament).

Uzbekistan's newly-formed Senate has reportedly approved Tanzila Narbayeva as chairwoman and accepted the government's resignation.

In accordance with the country's constitution, the government will continue to work until the new cabinet is established, the Senate said in a statement.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the Senate's first session following the election of the deputies of the upper chamber early in January.

The Senate reportedly heard Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov's statement on the resignation of the cabinet before the newly-formed Oliy Majlis (Uzbekistan’s parliament) in accordance with Uzbek laws.

Parliament is discussing the nomination of the new prime minister at a joint session of the two chambers today.
