President proposes parliament to replace the Ombudsman for Child’s Rights

President Emomali Rahmon has sent the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) a proposal to relieve Rajabmoh Habibullozoda of her post of the Ombudsman for Child’s Rights also Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Tajikistan, a source at the Majlisi Namoyandagon told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, Emomali Rahmon has proposed to appoint Mijgona Bobojonzoda the Ombudsman for Child’s Rights also Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Mijgona Bobojonzoda had previously served in the Legal Department of President’s Executive Office.

The issues and  challenges vis-à-vis child protection include lack  of capacity of the justice and law enforcement sectors in working with children; as well as a lack of specialized services and facilities.  The legal awareness of the population is low and, therefore,          rights-holders often are  not aware of their rights and entitlements, while   the accountability and    mechanisms to            monitor access to justice are weak or ineffective.  The     Government has adopted the Program for Human Rights Education for 2013-2020 in order to improve the latter services.

To this end, in May 2016, the Tajik Government created the Ombudsman for Child Rights and Rajabmoh Habibullozoda was appointed the Ombudsman for Child’s Rights also Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Tajikistan.
