Over the first six months of this year, five police officers from Kulob region of Khatlon province have been brought to justice over corruption charges, Jamshed Gulmahmadzoda, the chief of the anticorruption agency’s office for Kulob, told reporters in Kulob on July 16.
According to him, Zafar Ikromov, the senior operative investigator with the special group at the Kulob police directorate, has been caught red-handed while taking a 51,000 somonis bribe.
“Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ikromov under the provisions of Article 247 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – fraud,” Gulmahmadzoda said.
“Besides, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Umed Homidov, the operative investigator with the Shamsiddin-Shohin police department, who has been taken red-handed while taking a 10,000 somonis bribe,” said the chief of the anticorruption agency’s office for Kulob. “Criminal proceedings have also been instituted against Nouriddin Nematov, the investigator at the Farkhor police department, who is also charged with bribery.”
“Jumakhon Safarov, the passport control officer at the Muminobod police department, has been brought to justice over financial shortfall and criminal proceedings have been instituted against his colleague from the Kulob passport office Malika Homidova for the same reason,” Gulmahmadzoda added.
