QURGHON TEPPA, October 17, 2008, Asia-Plus — Criminal case of Rahmon Sharipov, the chief of the police department in Khatlon’s Rumi district, will move to a court in the near future, the Khatlon anticorruption directorate chief Sirojiddin Nourov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, Sharipov faces charges under eight articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code, including abuse of authority, illegal currency transactions, etc.
Nourov noted that the chief of the squad for combating drug trafficking (drug police) within the Rumi police department, Abdurahmon Yamoqov, and the chief of the investigation department within the Rumi police directorate, Jourakhon Fayzulloyev, had also been detained for being involved in the mentioned crimes.
The Rumi police department chief was detained on April 26, 2008 for bribery. He was caught red-handed when he was taking US$1,500 in bribe for reticence of the rape fact.
