Russia expected to increase agricultural imports from CIS nations

Vedomosti says President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Government to take measures to increase agricultural imports from the CIS member nations against the backdrop of measures to stabilize food prices.

As it follows from the list of instructions from the president following the meeting with members of the government, a report on this subject should be made by September 1, 2021 and further prepare quarterly.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was appointed responsible for the implementation of this assignment.

In addition, the president instructed the Federal Antimonopoly Service to provide monitoring of formation of prices for food products that are sold through retail chains.

In late June, asked why Russian carrots are more expensive than Ecuadorian bananas, Vladimir Putin said that “the country did not have enough its own products.”

According to him, prices rose for all vegetables from the borsch set, which also includes potatoes, cabbages and onions.

Recall, Shavkat Bobozoda, the head of the Export Development Agency under the Government of Tajikistan, told reported in Dushanbe on August 2 that the country’s exports for the first six months of this year have amounted to more 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, which was 88.3 percent more than in the same period last year.

Compared to the same period last year, the agricultural exports rose 9.7 percent.  In January-June this year, Tajikistan has reportedly exported more than 106,000 tons of vegetables and fruits over the reporting period.  Onions and dried fruits have accounted for the bulk of exports, 84,700 tons and about 12,000 tons respectively.

“More than 50 percent of agricultural goods have been delivered to China, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Belgium,” Bobozoda said.
