The governor of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Alisher Mirzonabot, yesterday held a meeting to review the preparations taken to ensure the regular work of the region’s economy during winter 2021-2022, according to the press service of the GBAO regional administration.
The governor reportedly heard the reports of the regional officials on the work done and gave them specific instructions on preparing for winter, procuring stocks and storing agricultural products and fuel, maintaining regional roads, maintaining stable prices at local bazaars.
Commenting on the recent incident in Khorog, the capital of the GBAO, Mirzonabot reportedly called on the region population “not to believe false rumors and baseless information.”
Public servants need to conduct their activities in accordance with the country’s legislation laws of the country and make efforts to implement action plans aimed at creativity and improvement, the governor added.
Recall, a four-day protest rally ended in Khorog on November 28 after an agreement was reached between the authorities and the protesters. The authorities reportedly committed to an independent investigation into the death of Gulbiddin Ziyobekov at the hands of law enforcement officers. An agreement was also reached to refrain from seeking prosecutions for the protesters.
Several Tajikistan-based civil society organizations issued a statement welcoming the compromise agreement to create a working group to investigate recent events in Khorog.
