Kyrgyz President names main external threats

According to Bakiev, the actual concept was worked out eight years ago but a lot has changed for the time. “Kyrgyzstan was involved in the whirl of world events. Especially after the terrorist attacks in the U.S. in September 11, 2001,” the president said.

The leader of the state named several main external threats for Kyrgyz security. The first one is the expansion of international terrorism and extremism in Central Asia.

The second threat is military-political situation in Central Asia. That is military actions between anti-terrorist coalition and Taliban movement in Afghanistan.

As one more external threat the president mentioned the worsening of water-energetic problems in Central Asia. Kurmanbek Bakiev connected it with low water period. According to the president all these problems should be solved taking into account interests of all countries in the region. He also supposed that construction of Kambarata hydro power stations can help to reduce the threat level.
