Tajikistan produces nearly 6 bln somoni worth of agricultural goods in Jan-Sept 2010

DUSHANBE, October 20, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Gross agricultural product from all categories of farms was nearly 6 billion somoni (in current prices) in January-September 2010, which is 397 million somoni more than in the same period last year, Deputy Agriculture Minister, Sijouddin Isroilov, told reporters in Dushanbe on October 19.

According to him, crop growing products increased by 8 percent and animal husbandry increased by 4.9 percent compared to January-September 2009.

Over the report period, local farmers have produced more than one million tons of cereals, including more than 600,000 tons of wheat, the deputy minister noted.

In January-September 2010, all categories of farms have produced some 775,000 tons of vegetables, 382,000 tons of melon crops, 438,500 tons of potatoes, some 154,000 tons of fruits, 88,000 tons of meat, 441,000 tons of milk and 162.9 million eggs.

“Over the same nine-moth period, Tajikistan has exported some 190,000 tons of agricultural goods to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan,” said Isroilov, “Tajikistan’s agricultural exports over the report period included primarily onions, melon crops and dried fruits”
