Finance minister concerned about improper work of industrial enterprises in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, October 20, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov is concerned about improper work of industrial enterprises in the country.

In a report released at an enlarged government board meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), Najmiddinov noted on October 19 that 202 of 850 industrial enterprises almost did not operate in January-September this year and 193 enterprises stood idle.  “Therefore, these enterprises failed to fulfill their tax target,” the minister said.

He also noted that decrease in production of local alcohol drinks evoked concern while shelves were filled with imported alcohol drinks.

“Production of vodka has decreased ten times compared to 1991 and three times compared to 2001,” said Najmiddinov.  “Over the first nine months of this year, 37 hectorliters of vodka have been produced in the country, which is 2.5 times fewer than in the same period last year.  Production of wines has decreased in the country ten times compared to 2001.”

The minister also suggested that international financial reporting standards should be introduced in all industrial enterprises of the country.  “This will promote receipt of additional funds to the country’s budget,” Najmiddinov said.
