The university entrance test will be held on August 1 in Uzbekistan. In connection with this, foreign currency was in a big demand at the black market during the last two weeks. These transactions resulted in rise of US dollar exchange rate.
Three weeks ago US dollar was sold at 1,790 sums, but now it is sold at 2,000 sums, while the official exchange rate is 1,488 sums per a dollar.
The black market dealers relate these transactions with bribes for university entrance exams. Last year, the bribe for successful admission into local universities varied from 1 to 10 thousand US dollars depending upon prestige of higher educational institution.
According to the president”s executive order regarding admissions into universities of Uzbekistan, 57,305 students will be enrolled for Bachelor”s degree programs in total (including 37,550 students without scholarships) in 2009/2010 academic year.
