CIS council for emergency situations meets in Moscow on July 30-31

DUSHANBE, July 29, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The 23rd two-day session of the CIS Interstate Council for Emergency Situations will take place in Moscow from July 30-31, according to the CIS Executive Committee press service.

The meeting aims to consider issues related to cooperation between relevant ministries and agencies of the CIS states in mitigating and removing effects of natural and anthropogenic disasters.  The meeting participants will consider the plan of main actions for implementation of the CIS further development concept, improvement of exchange of statistical data and conducting exercises for the CIS corps for mitigation of effects of disasters.

They will also discuss the draft instructions on exchange of information on natural and anthropogenic disasters and specify positions of their countries regarding the establishment of the reserve fund for providing assistance to disaster-hit states.

The CIS Interstate Council for Emergency Situations was set up in 1993 and its members include first deputy heads of national emergency management agencies of the CIS states.
