Tajikistan’s GDP for 2011 expected to amount to 30.2 bln somoni

DUSHANBE, January26, 2011, Asia-Plus — Specialists from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) expect Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) to rise 6.5 percent in a year to January 1, 2012, reaching 30.2 billion somoni (equivalent to more than US$6.8 billion), Deputy Minister of economic Development and Trade, Saidrahmon Nazriyev, told reporters on January 26.

“However, this prognosis may be changed during the year, depending on world and regional trends,” Nazriyev noted.

According to him, production of industrial goods is expected to grow by 3.9 percent and gross agricultural product is expected to increase by 2.3 percent.

The deputy minister said the country’s GDP rose 6.5 percent in a year to january1, 2010, reaching 24.7 billion somoni.  Tajikistan’s GDP for 2009 amounted for 20.6 billion somoni.  Inflation for 2011 is expected to stand at 9 percent, Nazriyev added.
