CPT leader rules out political motive in attack on IRP activist

DUSHANBE, February 8, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The Communist Party (CPT) expresses concern about recent attack on Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, member of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) political council (shuroi siyosi) and editor-in-chief of the IRP official newspaper, Najot, and asks the country’s authorities to speed up investigation into the attack on Sayfullozoda.

At the same time, the CPT leader also member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’ lower chamber of parliament) Shodi Shabdolov rules out any political motive in the assault on the IRP official.

Shabdolov is sure that the attack was not masterminded by the country’s special services.  “None of special services in the world would act so crudely against the opposition forces,” he noted.

“As politician, I know that such provocative actions are not conducted by the government bodies,” said the CPT leader, “Law enforcement agencies must deal with the incident and Sayfullozoda’s assailants must be brought to justice.”
