Russia cuts student quota for Russians living in Tajikistan

KHUJAND, May 11, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Russia has reportedly cut a student quota for Russian citizens living in Tajikistan.

According to the Russian Consulate General in Khujand, 50 seats at Russian universities have been allocated this year for Russian nationals living in the Tajik northern Sughd province.  It is nearly half as much as compared with 2010.

The membership of the commission that will select students for studying at Russian higher educational institutions will be considerably renewed, the source said.

Russian citizens living in Tajikistan selected for studying at Russian universities will study at the expense of Russia’s federal budget.  Student grants will be paid to them and they will be provided with dormitories in accordance with procedure established for Russian citizens.
