Tajikistan bids farewell to Asadullo Ghulomov

DUSHANBE, August 4, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A funeral ceremony for Asadullo Ghulomov took place at the Dushanbe central mosque today morning.

The funeral ceremony was attended by chairmen of both chambers of parliament Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev and Shukurjon Zuhurov, Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov, President’s Executive Office Head Matloubkhon Davlatov, members of the government, relatives and friends of the deceased and parishioners of the mosque.

Chairman of the Council of Ulemo (Islamic council that issues fatwas and religious guidance to Islamic religious organizations) Saidmukarram Abduqodirzoda said remembering prayers.

Speaking at the funeral ceremony, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev pointed out contribution that Asadullo Ghulomov had made to development of modern Tajikistan.

The body of Asadullo Ghulomov was transported by helicopter to his home district, Danghara, where he will be buried today.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Asadullo Ghulomov, died suddenly in Dushanbe yesterday, aged 57.  A reliable source in the government says Asadullo Ghulomov was traveling by helicopter to the site for construction of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) when he felt himself unwell.

Asadullo Ghulomov was taken to hospital in Dushanbe in serious condition.  He was diagnosed as having suffered a stroke.  Asadullo Ghulomov died yesterday afternoon.

Born on February 28, 1954, Asadullo Ghulomov received his early education in Danghara district before graduating in 1976 from Tajik Technical Institute.  In 2005, he took training course at Russia’s Public Management Academy in Moscow.

In 1995-2000, Asadullo Ghulomov was deputy head of the state-controlled construction company, Tojiksokhtmon.  In 2000-22003, he was chairman of Dushanbe’s Sino district.  In 2003-2006, Asadullo Ghulomov served as Deputy Prime Minister.  He had served as First Deputy Prime Minister since December 2006.

He is survived by a wife and four children.
