DUSHANBE, August 12, 2011, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon left for Astana to take part in the informal summit of heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states.
President Rahmon is accompanied by his Foreign Policy Adviser Erkin Rahmatulloev, a source in the Government told the AP.
According to the source, heads of CSTO member states are scheduled to discuss current security situation in Central Asia region and military and technical cooperation.
The source said Rahmon will probably conduct a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
No official documents are planned to be signed at the summit. “However, such meetings often give impulse to significant initiatives,” the source added.
According to Kazakh media, Astana summit will bring together leaders of all CSTO member states, except President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
