National workshop on integrated border management held in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, February 16, 2012, Asia-Plus — The EU-UNDP Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) Program jointly with the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) organized a three-day National Workshop on Integrated Border Management (IBM), Border Control Procedures, Risk Analysis and Assessment.

According to Suhrob Qahhorov, BOMCA Country Manager in Tajikistan, twenty participants of the workshop, staff of the border check points and units from different areas of Tajikistan together with international experts and BOMCA representatives discussed IBM concept, existing agreements between neighboring countries on cooperation between police forces, trilateral center for sharing information to prevent border violations and border control procedures.  European practices in the field of risk analysis and risk profiling were presented by the international experts.

The workshop that concluded on February 13 was held at a conference hall of the Higher Border College of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) which was recently renovated and fully equipped by the BOMCA Program.  Total renovation budget together with furniture and equipment provided for the College amounted to €17,666.

The overall objectives of the BOMCA Program are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.

The BOMCA Program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner.
