A group of adolescents blamed for two blasts in Tajik capital

DUSHANBE, June 22, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday June 21, a police directorate for the Ismoili Somoni district in Dushanbe hosted a news conference on three blasts that shook Dushanbe during the night of June 15-16.

The Interior Ministry spokesman Khudoynazar Asoyev told journalists that 10 adolescents used to washing cars on the streets had been detained on suspicion of having been involved in those blasts.

“The investigation has established that 18-year-old Khusrav Sharipov, 16-year-old Manouchehr Bobokalonov, 16-year-old Mirali Zaydullozoda, 14-year-old Farrukhruz Bukhoriyev, 12-year-old Mehrubon Qahhori, 13-year-old Faridun Giyoyev, the Mahmadnazarov brothers Umar and Rahmonali and the Qayumov brothers Jomi and Tohir were involved in two blasts that occurred outside the building of the Charitable Foundation run by Abdullo Nuri, the leader of Tajikistan’s Islamic Revival Party (IRPT and near the being constructed business center “Vefa-Center,” Asoyev said.

Abdurrahmon Taurov, the head of the investigation department of the Dushanbe police directorate, speaking to journalists said that the blasts had not been terrorist acts.  He noted that the explosions had been the work of teenagers.

On the first blast that occurred near Dushanbe’s Iranian Cultural Center, Mr. Taurov said that the investigation group has not yet had suggestions who could do this because the detained adolescents had not been involved in that blast.

We will recall that the first blast occurred around 00:30 a.m., on the Rudaki Avenue, near Dushanbe’s Iranian cultural center.  The second blast took place several minutes later on the Pushkin Street, outside the building of the Charitable Foundation run by Abdullo Nuri, the leader of Tajikistan’s Islamic Revival Party (IRPT.  The third blast took place near the being constructed business center “Vefa-Center” on the Bokhtar Street.  No injuries have been reported in those blasts.
