DUSHANBE, March 28, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday March 27, President Emomali Rahmon met here with a number of high-ranking participants of the Fifth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA V) that took place in Dushanbe on March 26-27, Tajik president’s official website reports.
Thus, President Rahmon met with EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Afghanistan Vygaudas Usackas and EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Central Asia Pierre Morel yesterday.
The sides reportedly discussed the conference and noted that many specific projects had been proposed at the conference and were unison in opinions that the conference was the beginning of passing from words to deeds.
They also considered issues related to implementation of the European Union (EU)’s strategy for Central Asia and removing artificial barriers standing in that way, the source said.
The EU special envoys noted that the European Union is currently working out a long-term plan of work in Afghanistan and Central Asia for the period until 2020.
The sides also discussed further reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy and establishment of peace and stability in the country.
State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar were the focus of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Mr. Ali bin Fahad al-Hajri, Qatari Assistant Foreign Minister.
The sides reached an agreement on holding a session of the Tajik-Qatari intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation in Dushanbe in the first half of this year.
