U.S. has little time, says CPT leader

DUSHANBE, March 28, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan must not break close partnership with Iran, the Communist Party (CPT) leader Shodi Shabdolov, who is also deputy of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, said in an interview with Asia-Plus, commenting on a statement made by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake, Jr. at a news conference in Dushanbe on March 27.

According to him, the Unites States appeal to Central Asia’s nations to support sanctions against Iran and refuse trade and other relations with it “is an attempt to unite other countries around it aggressive geopolitics.  “Such actions may end deplorably for these countries,” Shabdolov noted.

“Not in our interest is it to participate in military and political blockade of Iran.  Peace and stability in this country and in the entire region as a whole is in our interest,” said CPT leader.  “If Tajikistan gets involved in this adventure, it may lose everything, including its national state.”

The Communist Party of Tajikistan comes out against aggressive U.S. policy toward both Iran and other countries, Shabdolov stated.

CPT leader supported a statement made by Iranian President Ahmadinejad at a regional conference on Afghanistan in Dushanbe.  Speaking at the conference in Dushanbe, Ahmadinejad stated on March 26 that that NATO and the United States should change their policy because the time when they dictate their conditions to the world has passed.

“The United States must make shift from aggressive political model to the policy of taking into consideration national interests.  It is necessary to conduct civilized dialogue, maintain economic and political ties,” CPT leader said

Shabdolov considers the United States has little time to realize that there ought not to unleash a new war that may lead to catastrophe.
