DUSHANBE, August 7, 2012, Asia-Plus – The BBC reports that the commission comprising officials and public activists has noted that damage caused by the military operation to Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region may exceed 10 million somoni.
The authorities state that at first, they will restore the damaged buildings of organizations and agencies and only after that, they will assess damage caused to the local population.
It is still unknown how much compensation the residents of Khorog will receive for their damaged or destroyed property.
Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that damage caused to Khorog by the military operation has been estimated at more than 230,000 U.S. dollars.
More than 500 residential and administrative buildings were reportedly affected during the military operation on July 24. Damage caused to them has been estimated at 1.118 million somoni. Besides, 300,000 somoni worth of damage was caused to the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) and the GBAO road building and maintaining enterprise and the Khorog cultural center have reportedly sustained damage worth 75,000 and 35,000 somoni respectively.
