Tajik DCA liaison officers help shut down six drug labs in northern Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, September 14, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajik drug control chief Rustam Nazarov attended an international anti-drug conference that took place in Pravets, Bulgaria from September 11 to September 14.

The Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s press center reports the conference participants included senior drug control officers from Central Asia’s countries, Europe, Middle East, Russia, the United States, India, and Turkey.

The conference participants reportedly considered country reports on prevention of drug crime and discussed issues related to activities of transnational organized crime groups.

In a report released at the conference, Afghan Deputy Interior Minister, Baz Mohammad Ahmadi revealed on September 13 that an operation conducted in Afghan Badakhshan Province on September 12 led to the seizure of 180 kilograms of heroin, 2,000 kilograms of opium poppy seeds, and 700 kilograms of precursors.  Besides, six drug laboratories were destroyed, Afghan police official added.

Baz Mohammad Ahmadi also expressed gratitude to Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN), Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency (DCA), and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for contribution made to the mentioned joint operation, the DCA press center said.

We will recall that Tajik DCA has posted liaison officers in northern Afghanistan since 2004 and joint operations with the Counter Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) have been successfully conducted.
