DUSHANBE, December 15, Asia-Plus — Severe power shortages has led to a 20-25 percent increase in the prices of basic food products in Tajikistan, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).
A source at a MoEDT said that the price of one 50-kilogram sack of imported wheat flour has risen by on average 11 percent, from 48 and 55 somonis on December 1 to 55 and 60 somonis, depending on its type. The prices of bread have risen by 20 percent, according to the source.
The sources added, “As far as other food products are concerned, compared to late November their prices have risen by 20-25 percent.”
We will recall that when the authorities announced that electricity supplies to the country would be cut off from November 28-30 the prices of kerosene, liquefied gas and bread products in late November increased by 50-100 percent.
