DUSHANBE, April 23, 2014, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon is dissatisfied with the current level of development of Tajikistan’s economy.
His dissatisfaction came during an address to a joint meeting of both chambers of the parliament that took place on April 23.
Tajikistan’ national economy has grown nearly two times over the past seven years and country’s gross domestic product (GDP) has grown 1.5 times over the same seven-year period but these development rates are not satisfactory for us, Rahmon noted.
According to him, the population incomes have risen 1.7 times over the same seven-year period and the number of underprivileged families in the country will decline 20 percent by 2020.
“The current national development strategy of the country will be completed by 2015 and I propose to start preparations for drafting the national development strategy for the period to 2030,” Rahmon noted.
The National Development Strategy (NDS), which is the country’s principal strategic document, defines the priorities and general thrust of government policy, which is focused on achieving sustainable economic growth, expanding the public’s access to basic social services and reducing poverty.
