Tajikistan has earned $6.5 million from supplying electricity to Afghanistan in Q1 2016

DUSHANBE, April 26, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has reportedly earned 6.5 million U.S. dollars from supplying electricity to Afghanistan in the first quarter of this year.

According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Tajikistan has supplied more than 197 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan over the first three months of this year.

Under an agreement between the national power companies of the two countries, Tajikistan supplies electricity to Afghanistan at the rate of 3.2 cents per kWh.

Tajikistan reportedly supplies electricity to Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan only during the summer period,

Last year, Tajikistan was supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan at 2.5 cents per kWh, up from previous summer’s rate of 2.0 cents.  This year, according to Kyrgyz media outlets, Tajikistan has proposed the rate of 3.2 cents.
