DUSHANBE, June 19, Asia-Plus — Some twenty officers from the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Border Troops and National Guards of Tajikistan are participating in international military exercises involving troops from the United States and Central Asian states that started in Kyrgyzstan on June 18, Faridoun Mahmadaliyev, a spokesman for a MoD, told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.
According to him, troops from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the United States are taking part in the Regional Cooperation 2012 maneuvers, which are scheduled to run until June 29.
The drills are focusing on joint efforts to respond to natural disasters.
“The U.S. experts are instructing the exercise participants in preparing and conducting computer war games and using electronic maps,” said Mahmadaliyev. “The exercises have involved some 300 military personnel.”
