DUSHANBE, October 2, 2012, Asia-Plus — Two Tajik nationals have been detained in Kyrgyzstan on suspicion of having been involved in fuel smuggling.

Kyrgyzstan’s news agency, KirTAG, referring to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Interior, reported on October 2 that two Tajik gasoline-tank trucks carrying totaling 14.4 tons of diesel fuel have been detained in the Kyrgyz Batken region.  The drivers reportedly did not have any appropriate accompanying forms.  An investigation is under way.

Meanwhile CA-News reports that two heavy trucks KAMAZ carrying totaling 47 tons of smuggled cement destined for Tajikistan have been detained in the same region on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.  An investigation is under way.

We will recall that Radio Liberty reported that about 50 residents Kyrgyzstan”s southern region of Osh on September 13 blocked a highway connecting their region with Tajikistan, in a protest over exports of gasoline the protesters say is needed in Kyrgyzstan.  Fifteen trucks destined for Tajikistan, each carrying 40 tons of gasoline, were stuck on the highway near the village of Kara-Myk as a result of the protests.
