Cases of illegal fuels-and-lubricants shipments become more frequent in northern Tajikistan

KHUJAND, September 12, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Cases of illegal shipment of fuels and lubricants to northern Tajikistan bypassing customs posts have become more frequent.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Inom Ochilov, an official with the Sughd customs directorate, said that quite often, diesel fuel is delivered to the province illegally.

“A number of attempts of illegal delivery of fuels to the province were stopped lately and some 35 tons of gasoline and diesel fuel were confiscated” said Ochilov.  “Thus, a tank truck with 10,500 liters of diesel fuel was stopped on the road Konibodom-Khujand recently.”

In all, 1,588 instances of violations of the customs legislation have been recorded in northern Tajikistan over the first eight months of this year and violators have been fined a total of more than 1.101 million somonis, the Sughd customs official said.
