Afghan drug trafficker escapes from pretrial detention facility in Khorog 4

DUSHANBE, September 24, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Two Afghan drug traffickers have managed to escape from the pretrial detention facility in Khorog, Gorno Badakhshan, according the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The source at a MoI said that on September 22, two Afghan citizens – Davron valadi Parpisho and Qurbonnazar valadi Imomnazar – who were convicted on charges of drug trafficking and illegally crossing the border were sent under convoy to work on site for construction of the new Khorog pretrial detention facility on the outskirts of the city, from where they escaped at around 4:00 p.m.

Local police continue search for escapees; however, it is supposed that they managed to return to the Afghan territory.  Tajik law enforcement authorities are currently negotiating with their Afghan colleagues on detention of the escapees.
