DUSHANBE, October 20, 2008, Asia-Plus – In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, Interior Minister Mahmadnazar Solehov revealed on October 20 that 9,044 crimes have been reported in Tajikistan over the first nine months of this year, which is 3.6 percent or 335 cases fewer than in the same period of last year.
The number of crimes with use of weapons committed over the report period has decreased by 5.1 percent. Compared to January-September 2007 there was a 2.9 percent reduction in the number of the reported thefts.
The number of reported cases involving minors decreased by 27.5 percent, the minister said.
Over the same-nine month period, the crime detection rate has been 86.4 percent, which is 0.8 percent higher than in the same period of last year.
1,072 unit of firearms have been confiscated from the population over the report period. A totaled included 300 sub-machine-guns, machine-guns and grenade launchers, 172 rifles and carbines, 382 hunting guns, 159 pistols, as well as a large amount of landmines, grenades and bullets of different caliber.
