A 58-year-old Hojaroi Ashourova from the village of Iftikhor in Jomi district (Khatlon province) has got a lengthy jail for burying her three-year-old grandson alive .
The Khatlon regional court sentenced Hojaroi Ashourova to 18 years in prison on December 11. The sentence followed her conviction on charges of deliberate murder, an official source at the Khatlon regional court told Asia-Plus in an interview.
Ashourova will serve her term in a minimum-security penal colony.
The court's ruling is nearly identical to the prosecution's earlier demand for a 20-year prison term.
Hoharoi Ashourova reportedly confessed to killing her grandson. In her last plea, she said the baby had become victim of her constant scandals with his mother.
The investigation has established that Hojaroi Ashourova found guilty of murder after she buried her three-year-old grandson alive in ravine in September this year.
She reportedly buried her three-year-old grandson Behrouzjon alive in ravine not far from the Iftikhor village on September 12. The baby’s body was found six days later.
