Lavrov: Tajikistan interested in Russia’s 201st military base

Tajikistan is interested in further location of the Russian military base and other objects on its territory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said following his meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon.

“We have discussed issues linked to dislocation of the Russian military base in Tajikistan,” Lavrov said adding that the base provides common security in the context of decisions approved by SCTO, while special units of the base are part of the SCTO Collective Forces.

Today Tajik top officials confirmed their interest in further location of the Russian military base and other objects on Tajikistan’s territory, he said.

While commenting on the signing of a new Tajik-Russian Cooperation Agreement on dislocation of Russian military base in Tajikistan, Lavrov said that the draft agreement is still being considered. “The talks will be continued. Tajik President promised to give orders to speed up this process and we are also ready for this,” he added.
