Border officer gets long jail term for drug trafficking

QURGHON TEPPA, June 19, 2013, Asia-Plus — Former deputy commander of one of frontier posts deployed in southern Tajikistan has reportedly got a long jail term for drug trafficking.

The military court of the Khatlon garrison sentenced Major Bahriddin Ibrohimov, former deputy commander of the Sebandi frontier post deployed near the village of Kovoki in the Shourobod district, Khatlon province to 13 years in prison on June 18.  The sentence followed his conviction on the charge drug trafficking.

Tohir Iskandarov, the chairman of the military court of the Khatlon garrison, says: “In November 2004, Ibrohimov conspired criminally with several local residents and attempted to sell more than 22 kilogram of raw opium.”

“Police officers found the drugs in the house of Muruvatsho Nourmatov in the Vose district.  All members of this criminal group were detained, but Ibrohimov managed to escape,” said Iskandarov.  “Ibrohimov had been wanted by police since 2005 and he was detained only on January 25 this year.”
