DUSHANBE, April 15, 2015, Asia-Plus – An Afghan national has been detained with a large amount of drugs in the Darvoz district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
The Drug Control Agency (DCA) press center reports the 20-year-old resident of the Moi Mai village in Afghan Badakhshan was detained in the village of Togmai in GBAO’s Darvoz district on April 14.
Five packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to raw opium weighing more than six kilograms and seven packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to cannabis weighing nearly six kilograms were confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings against the detained drug peddler have been instituted under the provisions of three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 200 (3) – large-scale drug trafficking, Article 289 – smuggling, and Article 335 – illegal border crossing; an investigation is under way.
On the same day, fiver residents of the southern province of Khatlon were detained on suspicion of drug trafficking and two kilograms of raw opium were confiscated from them, the source said.
