Former Secretary of Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Adahan Madumarov believes that the situation in Tajikistan could threaten the aggravation of the situation in Kyrgyzstan and in the whole Central Asian regions.
The former head of the Security Council, the former parliament speaker, is currently touring the southern region of Kyrgyzstan bordering with Tajikistan.
“In Kyrgyzstan well remember the events in the neighboring country – the civil war in the first half of the 90s, as well as the armed IMU raids to the south of Kyrgyzstan, in the late 90”s, made from the territory of neighboring country”, – reminded Madumarov.
He said that “the recent events in Tajikistan, related to armed action of the officer of the Tajik Ministry of Defense, could again potentially threaten the south of our country, taking into account that the south of Kyrgyzstan is in a conflict-prone area – in Ferghana Valley, and it is experiencing its own security problems, – he said. – Unresolved border disputes and land – water conflicts, and certain issues related to religious extremism”.
In addition, the former Head of the Kyrgyz Security Council recalled that in early October in Kyrgyzstan will hold parliamentary elections.
“It is possible that certain internal forces, under the pretext of discontent with the election results, may try to destabilize the situation in our country. In the end, two changes of government that occurred in Kyrgyzstan in 2005 and 2010, occurred after the parliamentary elections”, – said the former Head of the Kyrgyz Security Council.
Also Adahan Madumarov believes that “all the necessary assistance should be given to Tajikistan within the framework of the CSTO” and beyond that “the authorities of Central Asian countries should take steps to join forces for responding on possible challenges of extremism and terrorism”.
