Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are expected to conduct first ever joint anti-terror drill this year, a source in the Tajik power-wielding structures told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, representatives of the defense ministries of the two countries are currently discussing issues related to the date for conducting the exercise and the number of personnel and materiel that will be involved in drill.
The exercises will be conducted at the training grounds in the territories of both countries. The purpose of the exercises will be to rehearse coordination and interaction in combating international terrorism, the source added.
Senior representatives from the defense ministries of both countries will observe the exercises.
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed a government-to-government agreement on cooperation in transiting military and special cargo as well as military contingent through their territories in Dushanbe last month during Uzbek president’s state visit to Tajikistan. Besides, the defense ministries of the two countries signed an agreement on military cooperation.
