According to data from the Prosecutor-General’s Office, more than 450 nationals of Tajikistan have been serving their jail terms in prisons of Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
All of them have reportedly been jailed for fighting alongside terrorist groups against government forces in those countries.
Besides, 470 national of Tajikistan who had been fighting for terrorist organizations in the mentioned countries had been killed.
Representatives of the Prosecutor-General’s Office did not give the exact number of Tajik nationals currently fighting for terrorist organizations in those countries.
Meanwhile, during his working visit to Sughd province in June 2015, Tajik chief prosecutor Yusuf Rahmon noted at a meeting with regional administrators that about 300 Tajik nationals, aged 18 to 35, were fighting alongside Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in Syria and Iraq. 40 residents of the northern city of Isfara alone traveled with their families to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS militants, Tajik chief prosecutor stressed.
