KHUJAND, August 5, 2011, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on his working visit to the northern Sughd province, today morning attended a ceremony of an official opening of the Palace of the Press in Khujand.
Editorial staffs of media outlets operating in the northern Sughd province will move to the newly built Press Palace soon.
The Sughd Press Palace is a 13-story, 54-meter-tall high-rise building; it is the tallest building in Khujand. The building consists of some 200 offices.
We will recall that a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the Press Palace was held in Khujand on November 27, 2007. 23 million somoni have reportedly been allocated from the national budget for construction of the building and purchase of the necessary equipment.
According to Press Palace director Ilhom Jamoliyon, the building will house editorial offices of both state-run and private media outlets working in the province as well as printing-house. “TV companies cannot be placed in the building because they need special conditions, but correspondents working for the city and republican TV channels may lease offices in the building,” he added.
