“The Project for Improvement of Livestock Production Facilities in Alichur Jamoat of Murghab District” for the total amount US$96,319 funded by the Government of Japan in framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully implemented.
It was difficult for local farmers to keep yaks in safe places during winter time as the existing sheds, which were constructed in 1970 in Alichur jamoat, were not appropriate condition to use. There were urgent needs by them toward building new sheds in order to secure the number of yaks in the area.
Through the project, three new sheds were constructed to keep yaks in safe condition during the severe winter season. In addition, the construction of channels for irrigating 100 hectares of pasture lands was implemented. As a result, around 600 local farmers in Alichur jamoat will be able to increase their income by enhancing their economic productivity in Murghab district.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational / medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. GGP has extended more than US$ 19.8 million for 271 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan since 1996.
