Explosion rocks Tajik capital today morning

DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus  — An explosion rocked Tajik capital today morning.

The explosion occurred in the yard of one of multistory residential buildings in the center of Dushanbe, not far from the mayor’s office, at around 7:00 a.m.  Security personnel cordoned off the site.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), reports on this explosion that caused no damage are quite discrepant.  “thus, the Dushanbe police directorate says that it was just a domestic gas blast, while officers from OMON (Special Purpose Police Squad) and the security service said that splinters of hand grenade had been found at the explosion site,” the source at a MoI said.

In the meantime, eyewitnesses say that they heard two explosions.

We will recall that the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) is still investigating an explosion that occurred in the center of Dushanbe on January 19.  The explosion occurred in a courtyard of one of residential buildings near the TsUM (Central Department Store) at around 7:15 p.m.  Eyewitnesses said that the explosion had sounded like a loud clap.  In the meantime, the source at the MoI said that the explosion had destroyed an iron refuse bin and splinters of hand grenade had been discovered at the explosion site.  No damage or injured was reported, according to the source.
